Cold in America: Millions of people in America are facing severe cold. According to various weather reports, a gust of Arctic air will bring down temperatures across much of the central and eastern US over the weekend.
The center of the arctic air will be centered over the country's northern plains and upper Midwest early next week, where maximum temperatures will be between 10 and 20, reports Xinhua news agency.
The US National Weather Service has issued a warning
The US National Weather Service has issued a warning for the area. They asked people to be prepared to face dangerous cold winds. However, heavy snowfall has already started in some of these places.
According to USA Today, cold air will move south and east during the long holiday weekend, causing temperatures to drop from central Texas to northern Florida and New York, with temperatures reaching close to zero in these areas. Parts of New York, Ohio and Michigan received about 2 feet (61 centimeters) of snow. The northwestern tip of Pennsylvania recorded 29 inches (73 centimeters) of snow.
Temperature may drop by 10 to 20 degrees
AccuWeather said that for areas exposed to the Arctic air, temperatures could drop by 10 to 20 degrees in late November and early December. The report said that by Saturday morning, about 196 million US citizens will wake up to sub-zero temperatures and it will be the coldest start of winter for millions of people living in these states.
Cold wave warnings and advisories have been issued from northern Wisconsin to Michigan and western New York, where up to 4 feet of snow could fall by the end of the weekend, USA Today said. However, later the snow could fall at a rate of 5 inches per hour.
New York Governor Kathy Hochul issued a statement
New York Governor Kathy Hochul said the state had deployed snowplows and thousands of workers. She also sent personnel from other parts of the state to help.
"I know this is something they are all used to and they can handle it. But I want to let them know that we are there with extra force to make sure everyone travels safely,"
