Smriti Irani News: Former Amethi MP Smriti Irani has been in the news for the last few days due to her active participation in the activities of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Delhi. Her increasing participation in political events in Delhi has increased the stir in the local unit of the party regarding her role in the politics of the national capital ahead of the assembly elections next year.
Born and brought up in Delhi, the former Union minister is seen actively participating in the party's membership drive-related events in the capital. Party leaders said Smriti Irani has been entrusted with the responsibility of "overseeing" the membership drive in seven of the 14 district units in Delhi. Party insiders also claimed that Irani has bought a house in South Delhi, indicating her further increased involvement in the party's activities in the national capital.
A senior BJP leader said, "These developments are being seen at a time when a section of party leaders is insisting on bringing forward such a face who can give a tough fight to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in the Delhi Assembly elections."
The question will arise about the right leader
The BJP contested the 2020 assembly elections without declaring any leader as its chief ministerial candidate. He said the party managed to win eight of the 70 seats, while the AAP won the rest. Another top leader of the BJP's Delhi unit said that if the idea of contesting the elections with a chief ministerial candidate gains momentum in the coming weeks, then questions will naturally arise about the leader suitable for the responsibility.
this is also a contender
He said, "In such a situation, along with Irani, other leaders like MPs Manoj Tiwari and Bansuri Swaraj, BJP's Delhi unit president Virendra Sachdeva and former West Delhi MP Parvesh Verma can be potential contenders for this role." He claimed that the entire party uniting behind one leader will send a message of "unity" and will also strengthen the campaign.
Discussion inside the party about CM face
In the 2015 assembly elections, BJP contested the elections by making Kiran Bedi the chief ministerial candidate, but the party's performance in these elections was quite poor. Some leaders believe that the idea of putting forward only one face for the elections was not right. The debate on this is still going on in the party.
According to a senior leader of Delhi BJP, the national leadership is aware of this matter and can take a decision on it later. Party leaders said that if AAP chief Kejriwal, who is lodged in Tihar jail in the excise policy case, gets bail, then discussions about declaring the chief ministerial candidate may intensify in the coming days.
