How did the accident happen?

According to the preliminary information, the boat Neelkamal going from Mumbai's Gateway of India to Elephanta Island was hit by a Navy boat after which this accident happened. After the accident, the boat started sinking in the water. After this, the passengers on the boat are being rescued by nearby boats. This incident happened around 4 pm. So far, 101 people have been rescued and taken out. At the same time, news of the death of 13 people is also coming to the fore.

Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis has informed that the Navy boat hit the Neelkamal boat at 3:50 pm. So far 13 people have died in this accident, including 10 passengers and 3 Navy personnel. Nearly 101 people have been rescued safely. Efforts have been made to rescue people quickly by conducting rescue operations. Final information will be available by tomorrow morning. CM Fadnavis has said that the families of those who have died will be given Rs 5 lakh as assistance from the Chief Minister's Help Room. Two people are seriously injured. The CM has said that this accident happened while the Navy boat's engine was being tested. This matter will be investigated.

 

Rescue operation is over

According to the information received, the boat going to Elephanta was named Neelkamal. It has sunk in Uran, Karanja. With the help of Navy, JNPT, Coast Guard and Yellowgate Police Station 3 and local fishing boats, relief and rescue work has been done at the accident site. The Navy started rescue efforts at the accident site in collaboration with Coast Guard and Marine Police. 11 boats of the Navy, 03 boats of Marine Police and 01 boat of Coast Guard were in the area. Apart from this, 04 helicopters were also engaged in rescue work.

CM Fadnavis gave a statement

Maharashtra Chief Minister Fadnavis has also taken cognizance of the boat capsized near the Gateway of India. He said - "Information was received that the Neelkamal boat going to Elephanta has capsized. Boats of Navy, Coast Guard, Port, Police teams have been sent for immediate assistance. We are in constant touch with the district and police administration, fortunately most of the citizens have been rescued. The district administration has been ordered to use all their systems in the rescue work."
