Story of worship and fast of mother Shailputri (First Day Maa Shailputri Katha)
According to Devi Bhagavat Purana, once Prajapati Daksha organized a huge Yagya in which all the gods and goddesses were invited, but he did not invite Lord Shiva and daughter Sati. At that time Mother Sati requested Lord Shiva to attend the Yagya, but Shiva did not agree. Then Goddess Sati herself took permission to go, there, angry with the insult of her husband Lord Shankar, she jumped into the Yagya and sacrificed her body, which she had received from her father Daksha. Enraged by this, Mahadev's first Gana Veer Bhadra killed Daksha.
After this, Goddess Sati was born as Goddess Parvati (Mata Shailputri) in the house of mountain king Himalaya and again got Lord Shiva as her husband.
