Lucknow. The situation is getting serious due to floods in the districts of UP bordering the Himalayas. Rainfall in the hilly areas of Uttarakhand and Nepal has caused the Sharda and Rapti rivers to overflow. After wreaking havoc in Pilibhit, the situation became serious in Shahjahanpur district on Thursday as well. Here the Garra river overflowed due to the water released from the Diuni Dam of Pilibhit. Due to this more than 70 villages of Shahjahanpur were submerged. The Delhi-Lucknow national highway is flooded with water up to three feet. On the other hand, relief and rescue operations are going on at a war footing in Pilibhit and Lakhimpur. On Thursday, the Chief Minister visited the flood-affected Shravasti and Balrampur districts of Rapti and took stock of the situation.

All schools were closed in Shahjahanpur    

On Thursday, water got into the Government Medical College along with many colonies and mohallas of Shahjahanpur. Patients have been shifted to private hospitals. The residences of the medical staff are also being vacated. The administration says that the medical college is at some distance from the Garra river. 25 years ago also some flood water had reached here, but this time due to the release of more water from the dam, the situation is becoming worse. All schools have been closed till Saturday.

Water started flowing over the bridge on the highway

After 12 noon, the water of the Garra river started flowing over the bridge on the Delhi-Lucknow NH. Heavy vehicles were stopped before entering the city limits due to water up to three feet. Traffic is closed in Pilibhit's Bisalpur due to waterlogging on the road. Train operations are affected on the Mailani route. Due to the rise in the water level of Ramganga in Badaun, studies in four government schools of Dataganj came to a halt. Connectivity routes were cut off in many villages.

57 villages in Hardoi are in trouble

In Bareilly's Nawabganj, water coming from Pilibhit inundated dozens of villages. In Hardoi, 57 villages are in trouble due to the rising water level in the Garra River. In Ambedkar Nagar, the Saryu and Ghaghra rivers are in full spate due to rain and water released from various barrages. Due to the release of excess water from Banbasa Barrage, the farmers have suffered losses worth crores due to the flood in Lakhimpur. Here, Palia, Nighasan, Dhaurahra and some parts of Phoolbehad and Nakaha of Sadar tehsil are affected. The crops have been destroyed due to waterlogging in the fields.

Animals are not getting fodder due to waterlogging in a large area. Milk production has decreased drastically, while due to water being released from Nepal, the waves of Saryu have crossed the danger point in Ballia and Mau. The water level of Rapti, Saryu, and Ami rivers is continuously rising in Gorakhpur. Due to the breaking of the embankment of the Mawan drain in Kushinagar, water has entered the houses of the Kaptanganj area. Chandan, Pyas, and Mahav drains have crossed the red mark in Maharajganj. Water has started entering many villages of the Navapur development block of Siddharthnagar.

'Nepal's water caused untimely floods in Purvanchal districts'

Chief Minister Yogi inspected Balrampur and Shravasti districts on Thursday by aerial and ground inspection. He reached Majhowa village on Uttaraula road to know the situation of the flood in Balrampur. Here he distributed relief material to the flood victims. He gave a symbolic cheque of relief amount to the relatives of two children who drowned in the flood water. The CM took Hema, the eight-month-old daughter of Mulkraj of Makunha village in his lap. The CM said that due to an untimely flood in the districts of Purvanchal caused by water from Nepal, crops have been destroyed.
