Shah Rukh Khan is the biggest star in Indian cinema right now, which is why he is called the Box Office King. He returned to the big screen in 2023 after a gap of four years and yet gave two blockbusters. Shah Rukh has had this tag of superstardom for almost three decades. His stardom began with 'Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge' released in the year 1995. It became the first big solo blockbuster of his career. In the same year, Shah Rukh also gave the biggest flop film of his career so far, a film that shocked the audience.
This film turned out to be a disaster
In 1995, SRK had seven releases. These included blockbusters like Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge and Karan Arjun as well as flops like Zamana Deewana and Guddu. But the film we are talking about was the actor's last release of the year and there were high expectations from it. People thought the film would be a box office success, but the opposite happened and the film suffered huge losses. The film was Mukul S Anand's Trimurti. Made on a budget of Rs 11 crore, it was India's most expensive film at that time, beating out Ajoobaa and Shanti Kranti, a record that stood until Kamal Haasan's Indian broke it with a production budget of Rs 15 crore.
flop movie
Though Trimurthi was a box office disappointment, it only managed to gross Rs 8 crore in India. This is despite the fact that Trimurthi had a record opening, becoming the first Indian film to gross Rs 1 crore in a single day, but the film flopped after the opening weekend due to poor reviews and negative word of mouth.
The story was something like this
'Trimurti' was a revenge saga starring Shah Rukh, Jackie Shroff and Anil Kapoor as three brothers. It also featured Priya Tendulkar and Mohan Agashe in pivotal roles. However, the film began shooting with Sanjay Dutt instead of Anil as the original cast, but after Sanjay Dutt was jailed in an illegal arms case, the project was shelved. The actor had already shot several scenes. Anil Kapoor was then brought back by producer Subhash Ghai. The release date was postponed from December 1994 to December 1995. However, due to production delays, the film's budget escalated and the buzz waned.
The director made these films
The film's director Mukul Anand made his debut in 1983 with the Gujarati film 'Kanku Ni Kimat'. A year later, he entered Bollywood. Over the next decade, he directed nine more films, including 'Hum', 'Agneepath' and 'Khuda Gawah', all starring Amitabh Bachchan in the lead. 'Trimurti' was his biggest film and sadly, also his last as a director. He produced two more films, 'Army' and 'Prithvi', before returning to direction with 'Dus' starring Salman Khan and Sanjay Dutt. However, he died of a heart attack in September 1997 at the age of 45, leaving the film incomplete.
