Santan Saptami Vrat has special significance in Sanatan Dharma. Santan Saptami Vrat is considered to give very good results. Due to its auspicious effect, all the difficulties related to children are removed. Also, all the wishes of the seeker are fulfilled. According to the Panchang, this year Santan Saptami Vrat is being observed today i.e. on 10th September. It is said that Santan Saptami Vrat is incomplete without its story, so on this auspicious occasion, do recite its story (Santan Saptami 2024), which is as follows.

Santan Saptami Vrat Katha (Santan Saptami 2024 Vrat Katha)

Once upon a time, Maharaj Yudhishthira asked Lord Krishna to tell him about a fast which would solve all the problems related to children. Hearing this, Murlidhar said, I will tell you a mythological story, listen carefully! Once upon a time, Lomaya Rishi went to Vasudev Devaki's house in Mathurapuri of Brajrat, where the Rishiraj was welcomed very well, due to which he became happy and started telling him the story. While telling the story, Lomaya said, O Devaki! The evil, wicked and sinful Kansa has killed many of your sons, due to which your heart is very sad.

Similarly, King Nahush's wife Chandramukhi was also unhappy, but she observed the Santan Saptami fast with full devotion and as a result of which she got the happiness of a child.

Hearing this, Devki folded her hands and said to the sage - 'O Rishiraj! Kindly tell me the entire story of Queen Chandramukhi and this fast in detail, so that I too can get rid of this sorrow. Then Lomay Rishi said - 'O Devki! Nahush was the king of Ayodhya, his wife Chandramukhi was very beautiful. A Brahmin named Vishnu Gupta lived in his city. His wife's name was Bhadramukhi. She was also very beautiful. The queen and the Brahmin woman were very much in love. One day they both went to take a bath in the Saryu river.

There they saw that many other women after bathing in the Saryu river and wearing clean clothes were worshipping the idols of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati in a pavilion. Seeing this the queen and the Brahmin woman asked those women, "Sisters!

Which god are you worshipping and why are you observing this fast? Hearing this, the women said that we are observing the fast of Santan Saptami and we have worshipped Shiva-Parvati with sandalwood and rice etc. according to the Shodashochara method. All this is the rule of this holy fast. Hearing this, the queen and the Brahmin woman also resolved to observe this fast and returned home. The Brahmin woman kept observing this fast regularly, but Queen Chandramukhi, due to her royal power, sometimes observed this fast and sometimes not.

Sometimes mistakes were made. After some time both of them died. In the next birth, the queen monkey and the Brahmin woman got the womb of a hen. The Brahmin woman did not forget anything even in the womb of a hen and kept meditating on Lord Shankar and Parvati ji, whereas the queen forgot everything even in the womb of a monkey.

After some time, both of them left this body. Now their third birth was in human form. That Brahmin woman was born as a daughter to another Brahmin woman. That Brahmin girl was named Bhushandevi and she was married to an Agnisheel Brahmin of Gokul. Bhushandevi was so beautiful that even without ornaments, she looked very beautiful. Even Kamadeva's wife Rati used to feel shy in front of her. Bhushandevi gave birth to eight sons who were very beautiful, endowed with all the qualities, like the moon, brave, devoted to duty, and of good nature.

All this was the result of fasting for Lord Shiva. On the other hand, the queen who was averse to Shiva did not have any son from her womb and she remained unhappy without having any child.

The love that the queen and the brahmini had in their previous births was still there. When the queen started growing old, she gave birth to a dumb, deaf and unintelligent son who had a short life. He left this fragile world at the age of nine. Now the queen was very sad and restless in grief for the loss of her son. By chance, the brahmini Bhushan Devi came to the queen's place with her sons. She too was very sad on hearing the queen's condition, but nobody could control this. Even Brahma himself cannot erase what is written in karma and destiny. The queen was also deviated from her karma, that is why she had to suffer.

Seeing the splendour and eight sons of Queen Pandithani, she became jealous of her and sin arose in her mind. That Brahmin lady removed the sorrow of the queen and left her eight sons with the queen.

The queen, overcome by sin, mixed poison in the laddus and fed them to the Brahmin's sons with the intention of killing them, but by the grace of Lord Shiva, not even a single child died. Seeing this, the queen was very surprised and resolved to find out the secret. When Bhushan Devi came after finishing the worship of God, the queen told her that I mixed poison in the laddus and fed them to kill your sons, but not even one of them died. What charity or good vow have you done?

Due to which your sons did not die and you are enjoying new happiness every day. You are very fortunate. Explain their secret to me honestly, I will be very grateful to you. Hearing such humble words of the queen, Bhushan Brahmini said, listen, I will tell you the story of three births.

So listen carefully, in your previous birth you were the wife of King Nahush and your name was Chandramukhi and mine was Bhadramukhi and you were a Brahmin. We used to live in Ayodhya and I loved you a lot. One day we both went to take bath in the Saryu river and seeing other women observing the fast of Santan Saptami and worshipping Lord Shiva, we took a vow to observe this great fast. But you forgot everything and you were blamed for telling a lie, which you are facing even today. I have always observed this fast according to the rules and rituals and I do it even today.

In the next birth you were born as a monkey and I was born as a hen. By the grace of Lord Shankar, I did not forget the effect of this fast and God even in this birth and continued to observe the fast according to the rules. You forgot this even in your monkey birth.

I understand that this is a big problem for you and this is the only reason for it and there can be no other reason for it. That is why I say that you should still observe the fast of Santan Saptami as per the rules so that this problem of yours gets resolved. Laumash Rishi said- After listening to the story of her previous birth and resolution etc. from the mouth of Devaki Bhushan Brahmini, the queen remembered the old things and started repenting and fell at the feet of Bhushan Brahmini and started pleading for forgiveness and started singing songs of the immense glory of Lord Shankar Parvati ji.

From that day onwards, the queen observed the fast of Santan Saptami as per the rules, due to which the queen got the blessing of a child and after enjoying all the happiness, the queen went to Shivaloka.

The fast of Lord Shankar has such an effect that even a wayward person moves forward on the right path and attains salvation after enjoying infinite prosperity. Lomash Rishi then said that Devki, that is why I am telling you also that if you also resolve to observe this fast in your mind, then you too will get the happiness of children.

After listening to this tale, Devki folded her hands and asked Lomap Rishi, "O Rishiraj! I will definitely observe this holy fast, but please explain to me in detail the rules, regulations, etc. of this auspicious and child-bliss-giving fast."

Hearing this, the sage said- O Devki! This holy fast is observed on the tenth day of Shukla Paksh in the month of Bhadon. On that day, one should wake up in the Brahma Muhurta and take a bath in the holy water of a river or well and wear clean clothes. Install the idols of Lord Shankar and Jagadamba Parvati. In front of these idols, make a knot of gold, silver wires or silk and tie seven knots in it. Worship this knot with incense, lamp and eight scents and tie it around yourself and pray to Lord Shankar for the fulfillment of your wish.

After that, make seven Pua and offer it to God and make gold or silver rings for seven sons and as per your capacity, keep them all in a copper vessel and after worshipping them with Shodashochara method, donate them to a virtuous, religious and worthy Brahmin. After that, take seven Pua yourself as prasad. This fast should be completed in this way.

On the Saptami day of the Shukla Paksha of Pratimal, O Devaki! By observing this fast in this manner, all sins are destroyed and a fortunate child is born and finally one attains Shivaloka. O Devaki! I have described to you the complete procedure of observing the Santan Saptami fast in detail.

Now you should do it according to the rules so that you will get good children. After telling this story, Lord Anandkand Shri Krishna told Dharmavatar Yudhishthir that 'Shri Lomash Rishi went away after teaching our mother in this way. According to the sage's story, our mother Devki observed this fast according to the rules, due to the effect of which we were born. This fast is especially beneficial for women, but it is equally beneficial for men too. This is an excellent fast which gives the joy of children and destroys sins, which you should do yourself and also make others do.

Whoever follows this fast according to the rules and worships with true feelings, they get the gem of children, along with this all the problems related to children are removed.
