Punjab News: The government sale of paddy continues in the grain markets of Punjab. This year, the price of grade A paddy is being given as per MSP at Rs 2320 per quintal. Meaning, the farmer is being given Rs 23.20 per kg of paddy. This time of purchase is the season of Kharif crops 2024-25. In which till now a total government purchase of Rs 27995 crore has been done, which has benefited 6.58 lakh farmers.
In fact, till Friday (8 November), 126.67 lakh metric tonnes of paddy had reached the markets of Punjab. Out of which 120.67 lakh metric tonnes of paddy has been collected by the state agency and Food Corporation of India. In this Kharif season, 4839 millers have applied for paddy peeling. Whereas the Punjab government has already allotted work to 4743 millers.
Procurement of paddy is going on in Punjab from October 1
Procurement of paddy for Kharif Marketing Season (KMS) 2024-25 has been started in Punjab from October 1 last month and 2927 regular mandis and temporary yards are operational across the state for smooth procurement from the farmers.
Government procurement will continue across the country till November 30
The central government has set an estimated target of 185 LMT for paddy procurement for the current Kharif Marketing Season (KMS 2024-25), which will continue till November 30, 2024. The lifting of paddy from the mandis is in full swing and more paddy is being lifted than the daily fixed quantity. In such a situation, paddy procurement is going on smoothly.
If we talk about last year, 124.14 lakh tonnes of rice was purchased from Punjab in the Kharif marketing season in the year 2023. According to PTI, the Center will buy 185 lakh tonnes of paddy from Punjab in the Kharif marketing season 2024-25 and adequate storage arrangements will be made to meet the procurement target.
