Troubles may increase for 13 companies including Vedanta, Vodafone Idea and Adani Enterprises. In fact, the Supreme Court has given its decision in favor of the Finance Ministry in the matter of notices issued by the Department of Revenue Intelligence against these companies. The Supreme Court has upheld the right of DRI to issue notices in this case, due to which the notices issued by DRI can once again become effective. DRI had issued notices against 13 companies.
Which were equal to 20 to 23 thousand crores rupees. After this decision of the Supreme Court, the process regarding these notices against these companies can start once again. The apex court said that the conclusion given in the 2021 decision is clearly wrong and said that DRI officers were notified as proper officers by the Center. Earlier in the 2021 decision, the court did not consider the power of DRI to issue notices for recovery of custom duty dues, due to which the notices were canceled.
This decision of the Supreme Court has made the DRI notices of ₹ 20,000 crore to ₹ 23000 crore in 800 cases likely to become effective again. The latest decision of the court has been given on a batch of 108 cases. Earlier, the companies which had received notices include Vedanta, Vodafone Idea, Adani Enterprises, TVS Motor Company, Samsung India, Godrej & Boyce Manufacturing, BSNL, Daikin, Sony India, Canon, Nikon India, Sennheiser and Yakut Danone. The DRI had issued notices to the companies with a demand for recovery of custom duty. After the 2021 decision, the Center had filed a review petition and the apex court heard the review and reserved its decision in September 2024. In today's trade, the stocks of Vedanta, Vodafone Idea, Adani Enterprises, TVS Motor Company are seeing a decline. Vedanta has fallen more than 4 percent and Adani Enterprises has fallen more than 3 percent.
