Haridwar Jail Two Prisoners Escaped: Two prisoners escaped from Roshanabad district jail in Haridwar late on Friday night, causing panic in the jail administration and police department. The prisoners who escaped include Pankaj, resident of Roorkee and Rajkumar, resident of Gonda (Uttar Pradesh). Pankaj was sentenced to life imprisonment on charges of murder, while Rajkumar was under trial in a kidnapping case. This incident has raised serious questions on the security arrangements of the jail and the functioning of the administration is being criticized.

According to the information, Ramlila was being organized in the jail and some construction work was also going on. During this time, a ladder was being used for the construction work, which the prisoners took advantage of the opportunity and used to cross the prison wall. On Friday night, when most of the jail workers were busy organizing Ramlila, these two prisoners took this opportunity and escaped.

This incident makes it clear that the jail administration did not make adequate security arrangements. Especially when a public event and construction work were going on simultaneously in the jail premises. This incident happened due to the negligence of security during Ramleela and lack of monitoring of the construction work.

As soon as the jail administration got information about the prisoners escaping, the police was immediately informed. The police has started an intensive search operation in Haridwar district and surrounding areas to search for both the prisoners. Police officials say that special teams have been formed to search for the escaped prisoners and surveillance has also been increased at railway stations, bus stands and major routes.

Questions raised on the negligence of jail administration

The incident of prisoners escaping has raised serious questions on the functioning of the jail administration. Ignoring security during a public event and construction work at a sensitive place like a jail indicates a major danger. This incident also shows that there are serious flaws in the monitoring and security of prisoners.

There is negligence on the part of the jail administration- District Magistrate Karmendra Singh

On this matter, District Magistrate Karmendra Singh says that "Construction work is going on in the jail and Ramlila was also being organized here yesterday. Taking advantage of this, both the prisoners ran away from the jail by using a ladder. This is definitely negligence of the jail administration. FIR has been registered, investigation is going on. Departmental investigation and magistrate investigation will also be conducted."

As soon as the information was received, the search operation was started- SSP

On the escape of two prisoners from Haridwar jail during Ramleela, Haridwar SSP Pramod Singh Dobal said, "This morning we received information from the control room that two prisoners - one convicted and the other undertrial - have escaped from the jail. When the district administration received the information, we started investigation and search at various places. A case has been registered under the relevant sections, soon they will be arrested and legal action will be taken. Prisoner Pankaj was convicted under section 302 of IPC and prisoner Ram Kumar was an undertrial prisoner on charges of kidnapping."
