Bengaluru: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will appear before a special court on Friday in a defamation case filed against him by the Karnataka BJP for releasing derogatory advertisements in mainstream newspapers.
The advertisement, given before the assembly elections last year, accused the then BJP government of the state of being involved in large-scale corruption during its rule from 2019 to 2023. The state Congress said on Thursday that Rahul Gandhi will appear in the City Civil Court at 10:30 am on Friday.
CM Siddaramaiah will also be present
After this, he will talk to the newly elected Congress MPs and defeated candidates from the state at Bharat Jodo Bhavan on Queens Road. During this, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar will also be present. On June 1, the court granted bail to Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar in the defamation case.
Justice KN Shivkumar had ordered Rahul Gandhi to appear in person on June 7. During the hearing of the case last week, Gandhi's lawyer had applied for exemption from appearance for his client. However, the complainant party opposed it and argued that exemption should not be allowed again and again.
