The country's largest company Reliance Industries had given a gift to its investors by announcing bonus shares for every one share. This clearly means that those who had shares in their demat accounts till October 28, got bonus shares for every one share.

Let's understand it this way...

When a company gives shares to investors for free, it is called bonus shares. Investors get bonus shares in a special ratio. For example, Reliance has given a bonus of 1:1, so it means that you have got 1 bonus share for every 1 share. (Waaree Energies IPO Listing: Listing with more than 50% profit on the first day - note all details) Although the equity capital increases after the bonus issue, there is no change in the face value. Due to no change in the face value, the investor benefits from it in the future in the form of higher dividends.
