National Payment Corporation of India (NPCI) Chief Operating Officer Praveen Rai has resigned and will take over as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of MCX. Multi Commodity Exchange of India (MCX) Limited informed on Thursday (31 October) that Praveena Rai has officially taken over as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer from 31 October 2024.

Praveena Rai's appointment was confirmed by the company's board, regulator and shareholders in the Annual General Meeting held on 26 September. Praveena Rai's tenure as MD and CEO will be five years. Praveena Rai, who has more than three decades of experience, has played many important roles in India's financial sector. She has made a major contribution to digital and strategic advancement.

Who is Praveena Roy Before joining MCX, Rai served as Chief Operating Officer at National Payment Corporation of India (NPCI), where she played a key role in formulating business, operations and technical strategies and sizing the organization's industry impact. Prior to this, she has also worked at Citigroup Global Services and Kotak Mahindra Bank. Rai is an alumnus of IIM Ahmedabad, who holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Management (1995) and a Bachelor of Engineering (1990) from the College of Engineering, Guindy. He also completed the Advanced Management Program (AMP) at the Wharton School in 2023. Shares of Multi Commodity Exchange of India Limited closed at ₹ 6,535, up ₹ 151.70 or 2.38% on the BSE.
