There are two types of diabetes - Type-1 and Type-2. While Type-1 is genetic, our lifestyle and eating habits are responsible for Type-2 diabetes. However, Type-2 diabetes can be controlled to a great extent by making necessary changes in diet and lifestyle. Some yogasanas can also help you in controlling blood sugar levels, one of which is Dhanurasana.

Benefits of Dhanurasana in diabetes

  • By doing Dhanurasana, the pancreas gets activated. Due to which the blood sugar level remains controlled.
  • By practising Dhanurasana, the stretching of the stomach and its surroundings reduces the fat in these areas. This asana is effective in reducing both obesity and weight .
  • By doing Dhanurasana, the kidneys also perform their functions properly.

How to do Dhanurasana

  • Lie down on your stomach on the mat.
  • Bend both your knees and hold them with your hands. Rest your head on the mat. 
  • While taking a deep breath, stretch your legs with your hands and lift your upper body upward.
  • In this position the body has to be balanced on the stomach.
  • Remain in this position as long as you can according to your capacity.
  • Exhale and come down and relax your body.
  • After resting for a few seconds, practice it again. Try to do this asana at least five times.
