Mehbooba Mufti On Waqf Act: PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti on Wednesday (09 April) urged the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly to pass a resolution to reject the amendments to the Waqf Act. Wednesday is the last day of the budget session of the Assembly. Former Chief Minister Mufti said in a post on X that the ruling coalition should give priority to passing a resolution to reject this bill instead of prolonging the political tamasha.
The PDP president also mentioned the meeting between CM Omar Abdullah and Union Minister Kiren Rijiju at the Tulip Garden. He said, "The Chief Minister of India's only Muslim-majority state gave him a grand welcome. It appears that this step has been taken deliberately, so that 24 crore Muslims across India can be signaled that when the leader of the only Muslim-majority region of the country stands in their support, their views have no importance."
'Omar Abdullah's actions have caused division in Muslim community'
He said, "This visit against the backdrop of Asia's largest tulip garden seemed like a public celebration of the marginalization and disempowerment of the Muslim community. Omar Abdullah's actions have further deepened the feeling of isolation and helplessness in the Muslim community."
Will challenge the amendment in Waqf Act in SC- Mufti
The PDP chief accused the National Conference (NC) of staging a drama in the assembly to divert people's attention from the three bills approved by the Lieutenant Governor. The PDP president also said that his party would challenge the amendment to the Waqf Act in the Supreme Court.
'Omar and Farooq Abdullah did not oppose the Waqf Bill'
Reacting to Prime Minister Narendra Modi 's stand on the Wakf Amendment, Mehbooba Mufti asked, "Why was the Muslim community not consulted before bringing the bill in Parliament? All Muslims are opposing it. Everyone is against it except the National Conference and its leadership. Omar Abdullah and Farooq Abdullah did not oppose it but all the Muslims and secular parties of the country are also opposing it."
