Even though Kiran Rao's Missing Ladies has been out of the Oscars, there is still a hope for India in the Oscars. Actually, Anuja produced by Guneet Monga has brought this hope for India. His film has been selected for the live-action short film category along with 15 other films.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences released a list of shortlisted films for 10 categories ahead of the 97th Oscar ceremony. These categories include animated short film, documentary feature, documentary short, international feature, live action short, makeup and hairstyling, original score, original song, sound and visual effects. If there is any film among these that is being talked about the most, then it is Anuja. It has been produced by two-time Oscar winner Guneet Monga. This project has been shortlisted in the live action short category.

 

What is Anuja's story?

'Anuja' is the story of a 9-year-old girl. Anuja has to choose between working in a factory and studying. Anuja's sister Palak tells her that a smart child is one who studies in a boarding school. Palak says that if one doesn't want to be smart, what choice does he have? She starts working in a textile factory in New Delhi with her elder sister. The film is directed by Adam J. Graves. Guneet Monga has worked as an executive producer in this film.

 

Who all are included in the cast?

The film's cast includes Nagesh Bhosle, Sajda Pathan, Gulshan Walia and Ananya Shanbag in the lead roles. Hollywood star-writer Mindy Kaling is the producer of Anuja. The film was released in the United States in June 2024. Anuja is produced under the banners of Graves Films, Krishna Naik Films and Shine Global.

 

Oscar voting for all 23 category nominees begins on January 8 and ends on January 12. Nominations will be announced on January 17.
