Launching the second version of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, the Central Government has signed agreements with 147 lending institutions and banks to provide interest subsidy to the beneficiaries.
Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Manohar Lal said in a national workshop organized on the Interest Subsidy Scheme, a component of the PM Housing Scheme, that all parties will have to work together to identify the right beneficiaries and provide them housing as per the scheme. The system should be such that homeless people benefit from this scheme and there should be no obstacle in this.
Center launched the portal
The central government is emphasizing on the interest subsidy scheme for home, because apart from the low income group, middle class people will also come under its purview. For this, the importance of the banking community is the highest. The central government will provide interest subsidy of up to Rs 1.80 lakh to those who avail this scheme.

The government has also launched a portal for the PM Housing Scheme. The PM Housing Scheme will be implemented through this portal created by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs. The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana is operated by the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs.
It will be easier to monitor
The portal has simplified the application process for applicants. Through this, applicants will also be able to know the status of their application. All the parties involved in the implementation of the scheme will also be able to share their data in it. This will not only speed up the process of implementation of the scheme, but it can also be monitored at the central level. More than 250 people, including representatives from states and union territories, participated in the workshop.
When did the scheme start?
Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana was launched on 25 June 2015. The aim of the scheme was to provide permanent houses to homeless people. According to Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Urban, assistance is provided to the poor in building permanent houses. The government arranges for electricity and water supply in these houses. Toilet and kitchen are also provided.

The scheme gives priority to Scheduled Castes and Tribes, Other Backward Classes, Senior Citizens, Disabled, Minorities and Transgender.
