Oslo: Norway's Crown Princess Mette-Marit has been undergoing treatment for a rare lung disease. On Wednesday, the palace issued a statement about her illness and said she was going on sick leave for a week.

Pulmonary fibrosis is a rare disease

Mette-Marit is the wife of Crown Prince Haakon, the heir to the throne. According to AP, Crown Princess Mette-Marit was diagnosed with her illness in October 2018 and it was announced. Mette-Marit suffers from a rare lung disease called pulmonary fibrosis, an incurable disease that causes scarring of the lungs and shortness of breath.

The palace said on its website that the Crown Princess has been placed on sick leave for a week initially due to the side effects of the medication she had to take for her chronic lung disease. At the same time, her royal duties have also been affected many times due to this disease. Due to this disease, she had to cancel many important programs.

Husband Haakon wrote an emotional thing in his autobiography

Haakon said in an official autobiography published last year that she will never be cured, but the disease is not getting worse too quickly, and that is the goal of the doctors to ensure that the disease does not progress. He said that illness is also a part of life, and challenges have to be faced together. There are many good days spent with them, but uncertainty always remains.

Serious allegations against Mette-Marit's son

Mette-Marit was a single mother before she got into a relationship with Crown Prince Haakon. She has a son named Marius Borg Høiby who is 27 years old. He was recently in the news after several of his girlfriends accused him of assault. On August 4, Marius assaulted a girl in an apartment building in Oslo, after which the police arrested Marius and kept him in custody for 30 hours. According to the outlet, the woman was injured in the assault and was treated at a hospital.

Talking about the issue, Haakon, who went to Paris for the 2024 Olympics, told reporters that this is a serious matter and the police are investigating the matter, so it is not right for me to speak. Haakon admitted in August that he had beaten the girl under the influence of alcohol and cocaine.
