Kathmandu. The Nepal Government has recalled its ambassadors from 11 countries including India and the US. These include ambassadors appointed under the Nepali Congress quota. This step has been taken three months after Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda broke his alliance with the Nepali Congress and joined hands with KP Sharma Oli.
According to the newspaper Kathmandu Post, despite strong objections from Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Narayan Kaji Shrestha, the government on Thursday summoned Nepal's Ambassador to India Shankar Sharma and other ambassadors.
The move sends a deeply undiplomatic message
This step has been taken before Prachanda's visit to New Delhi to attend the swearing-in ceremony of Narendra Modi as Prime Minister on Sunday. Several officials of the Foreign Ministry said that such a step would send a very undiplomatic message. Foreign Minister Shrestha had asked Prachanda and Oli not to call these ambassadors.
Dahal and Oli took a unilateral decision- Shrestha
Foreign Minister Narayan Kaji Shrestha opposed the proposal to recall ambassadors appointed under the quota of Nepali Congress and other parties, but Prime Minister Dahal and CPN-UML chairman KP Oli took a unilateral decision to recall the ambassadors.
