The NIA on Tuesday said it arrested 210 accused in 2024 and achieved a record 100 per cent conviction rate. The anti-terror probe agency said in a statement that the NIA has arrested at least 27 absconding criminals during this period.
The investigation focused on successful investigation of several high profile cases and handling of cases related to Left Wing Extremism (LWE). A statement said that 210 accused have been arrested in 80 cases registered by the NIA in 2024. Among these cases, Left Wing Extremism tops the list with 28 cases and Northeast Insurgency with 18 cases.
68 accused convicted in 25 cases
The impressive performance of the NIA saw 68 accused convicted in 25 cases and chargesheets filed against 408 accused. A total of 137 properties worth Rs 19.57 crore were attached during the year as part of the agency's sustained efforts to dismantle various terrorist, gangster and other criminal networks.
Left Wing Extremism remained under the NIA's scanner throughout 2024, leading to 69 arrests. 12 chargesheets were filed against 64 accused. Northeast insurgency was also on the NIA's radar with 15 arrests. The agency arrested 14 accused in connection with foreign-based Khalistani terror cases during the year, with 101 searches conducted in these cases.
ANI conducted raids at 662 places
The total searches conducted in all types of cases in 2024 was 662. Thirteen arrests were made in gangster-related cases during the year, the NIA said. The statement said the agency's prompt efforts in solving terrorism cases were evident from the fact that it had filed a chargesheet against Pakistan-based Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) chief Wadhawa Singh alias Babbar and five other terrorists in the murder of VHP leader Vikas Prabhakar alias Vikas Bagga in Punjab within a few months of the deadly attack.
Similarly, a speedy chargesheet was filed against 10 accused, including foreign-based terrorist Goldy Brar, in a case related to extortion firing at the house of a businessman in Chandigarh by Brar's associates, the NIA said.

Another notable development in cases related to Khalistani terror was the successful extradition of Tarsem Singh Sandhu of Tarn Taran district of Punjab from the UAE. As far as extradition secured by the NIA is concerned, another accused Salman Khan was brought from Rwanda in the Bengaluru, Karnataka arms seizure case.
