The government said on Monday that in the first eight months of the financial year 2024-25, more than 11.70 lakh children have been identified across the country who are not studying in school. In response to a question in the Lok Sabha, Union Minister of State for Education Jayant Chaudhary said that the highest number of such children is in Uttar Pradesh. In Uttar Pradesh, 7.84 lakh children do not go to school.

 

According to the data shared by the minister, 11,70,404 children have been identified as not attending school. More than 65 thousand children in Jharkhand and more than 63 thousand children in Assam do not attend school.

 

Rural literacy rate is more than 10 percent

Rural literacy rate increased by more than 10 percent in the last decade. In response to another question, Jayant Chaudhary said that literacy rate in rural India has increased by more than 10 percent in the last decade. During this period, literacy rate of women increased by 14.50 percent.

 

According to data shared by the minister, the literacy rate of rural India among persons aged seven years and above is projected to increase from 67.77 per cent in 2011 to 77.50 per cent in 2023-24.

 

There has been an increase in the female literacy rate

During this period, female literacy increased from 57.93 percent to 70.40 percent. Male literacy increased from 77.15 percent to 84.7 percent. More than 7.9 lakh students of class 9, 10 chose AI subject. In response to another question, the Minister of State for Education informed that in the 2024-25 academic session, more than 7.90 lakh students from 4,538 schools have opted for Artificial Intelligence (AI) course at the secondary level (class 9 and 10). More than 50 thousand students from 944 schools have opted for AI at the senior secondary level (class 11 and 12).
