According to the Vedic calendar, Wednesday, January 29 is Magha Amavasya. It is also called Mauni Amavasya. Ganga bath is taken on this auspicious occasion. After the puja, Mahadev, the God of Gods, is worshipped with devotion. Lord Shiva is anointed during the puja.

There is a religious belief that by bathing in the Ganges and worshiping Mahadev on Mauni Amavasya , a person gets freedom from all the troubles prevailing in life. Also, the effect of Pitra and Kaalsarp Dosh is reduced or eliminated. On this auspicious occasion, Tarpan and Pinddaan of ancestors are also done. If you also want to get rid of Pitra Dosh, then take a bath in the Ganges on Mauni Amavasya and do the Abhishek of Lord Shiva. At the time of Abhishek, chant the mantra of the names of Lord Shiva. By doing this remedy, you will get relief from Pitra Dosh.
