Dr. Manmohan Singh died on Thursday night at Delhi AIIMS . He was 92 years old. 7 days of national mourning has been declared on his demise. Dr. Singh was known for his very calm nature.
Due to his simple nature and knowledge, Dr. Manmohan Singh was respected beyond political boundaries. But his political opponents had given him the title of 'Silent PM'. On this, he broke his silence in December 2018 and answered his opponents.

Dr. Manmohan Singh wrote a book named 'Changing India' in 2018. During its release, he said, ‘People say that I am a silent Prime Minister. I think this book will speak for itself. I would definitely like to say that I am not the Prime Minister who is afraid of talking to the press.’
He became Prime Minister twice
Dr. Manmohan Singh was sworn in as the Prime Minister of India in 2004. He was a great economist. Even during many political challenges and economic problems, he took decisions in the interest of the country. Manmohan Singh held the post of Prime Minister of the country from 2004 to 2014.
He served two terms as Prime Minister of India. He was the second person after Jawaharlal Nehru to do so. Many important decisions like MNREGA, Right to Education and Nuclear Deal were taken during his tenure. As the Finance Minister of the country in 1991, Dr. Singh ended the license raj from the Indian economy.
Born in Punjab province
Dr. Manmohan Singh was born on 26 September 1932 in Gah village of Punjab province of undivided India. This village now lies in Pakistan. After partition, his family came to Amritsar and he completed his studies from Punjab University.
After this he went to Cambridge and then did his DPhil from Oxford University. Before the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, he announced that he was retiring from the political journey. After this, Rahul Gandhi was seen as his successor. But the Congress suffered a bad defeat in the results.
