Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh passed away on Thursday (26 December 2024). 92-year-old Manmohan Singh was admitted to Delhi AIIMS on Thursday itself. He was having trouble breathing. 

Born in 1932,

Dr Manmohan Singh was born on 26 September 1932 in a village in the Punjab province of undivided India. He completed his matriculation from Punjab University in 1948. After that, he received his further education from Cambridge University in Britain. In 1957, he earned a first class honours degree in economics. After this, in 1962, he did his D.Phil in economics from Nuffield College, Oxford University. Dr Manmohan Singh and his wife Mrs Gursharan Kaur have three daughters.

Singh became the Chief Economic Advisor in the Finance Ministry in 1972.

India's fourteenth Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh is known for his humility, diligence and commitment to work. Manmohan Singh joined the Ministry of Commerce as an economic advisor in 1971. In 1972, he was appointed as the Chief Economic Advisor in the Ministry of Finance. Dr. Singh also worked as Secretary of the Ministry of Finance; Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission; Chairman of the Reserve Bank of India; Advisor to the Prime Minister; Chairman of the University Grants Commission. Manmohan Singh was the Finance Minister of India from 1991 to 1996. This time was very important for the economic structure of the country.

Dr Manmohan Singh has received so many honors

Dr. Manmohan Singh has been honoured with many awards and honours. Important among them are India's second highest civilian award Padma Vibhushan (1987); Jawaharlal Nehru Birth Centenary Award of Indian Science Congress (1995); Asia Money Award for Finance Minister of the Year (1993 and 1994); Euro Money Award for Finance Minister of the Year (1993), Adam Smith Prize of Cambridge University (1956); Wright Prize for Distinguished Performance at St. John's College, Cambridge (1955). Dr. Singh has been honoured by Japanese Nihon Keizai Shimbun and other associations. Dr. Singh has been awarded honorary degrees by Cambridge and Oxford and many other universities.
