Shardiya Navratri is starting from Thursday i.e. 3rd October. This festival is celebrated every year in the month of Ashwin and it concludes with Maa Durga Visarjan on Dashami Tithi. During this, special worship of nine forms of Maa Durga is done. This festival starts after the end of Pitru Paksha. Mahalaya is known as Sarvapitre Amavasya. This date is considered important because on this day Maa Durga bids farewell to Mount Kailash. The arrival of Maa Durga is called Mahalaya (Mahalaya Amavasya 2024).

When is Mahalaya (Mahalaya 2024 Date and time)

According to the Panchang, Sarvapitre Amavasya is celebrated every year on the Amavasya date of Krishna Paksha of Ashwin month. This day is the last day of Pitru Paksha. For this reason, Mahalaya will also be celebrated on October 02. Shardiya Navratri (Sharadiya Navratri 2024) will start from the next day.

  • Kutup Muhurat- from 11:46 am to 12:34 pm.
  • Rohini Muhurat - from 12:34 pm to 01:21 pm.  
  • Afternoon period - from 01:21 pm to 03:43 pm.

 

Relation of Mahalaya with Sharadiya Navratri

The festival of Mahalaya has great importance in Sanatan Dharma . The next day of this festival, Sharadiya Navratri begins. Sarvapitre Amavasya is also known as Mahalaya Amavasya. There is a religious belief that Mahalaya Devi does not come to earth during Sharadiya Navratri, so worshiping the nine forms of the mother is not possible. It is believed that by worshiping Maa Durga daily during Sharadiya Navratri , the person gets relief from all kinds of sorrows and pain and attains happiness and prosperity.  

What to do on Mahalaya Amavasya

  • Water should be offered to the ancestors on the day of Mahalaya.  
  • Shraddha of ancestors should be performed.
  • Donate charity to poor people.
  • Satvik food should be consumed.
