It is believed in the Hindu calendar that every year the Mahalakshmi fast begins on the Ashtami Tithi of Shukla Paksha of Bhadrapada month. At the same time, this fast ends on the Ashtami Tithi of Krishna Paksha of Ashwin month. In such a situation, the Mahalakshmi fast is observed for about 16 days.
