Why is the royal procession taken out?
There is a popular mythological story behind the royal procession of Naga Sadhus in Maha Kumbh . It is said that when the God of Gods Mahadev went from Kailash to his in-laws' house to marry Mother Parvati, a grand and beautiful procession was taken out, which mesmerized everyone. All the Gods and Goddesses, Suras and Gandharvas etc. participated in this royal procession.
It is said that when Shiv Ji returned with Goddess Parvati, he saw that the Naga Sadhus were standing there and crying. Seeing this, Bholenath asked the reason for this. All the Naga Sadhus said that they were very sad about not being a part of Shiv Baraat. Then Mahadev solved this problem by promising the Sadhus that soon they will also be a part of the royal procession and he will also be present with them in person.
Benefits of watching the royal procession
When the Samudra Manthan happened after some time, some drops of Amrit fell on the earth and after that Maha Kumbh was organized for the first time. During this time, as per the instructions of Lord Shiva, Naga Sadhus took out a royal procession. It is said that seeing this holy procession brings blessings of Bholenath. Along with this, one also gets rid of the sins of many births.
