Madhya Pradesh, a tragic incident occurred when a slab collapsed in a coal mine, resulting in the entrapment of several workers and the unfortunate death of three individuals. The accident took place in the Pathakheda area, known for its coal mining activities under Western Coalfields Limited (WCL).

This is not the first time such an incident has occurred in the region. In May 2022, two workers were crushed to death in the Tawa-I underground mine when a large block of coal fell on them while they were laying safety pillars. Similarly, in January 2018, four women were killed when a closed WCL mine in Betul caved in while they were illegally extracting coal.

Safety Concerns:

These recurring accidents highlight significant safety concerns in the coal mining operations of the region. Proper safety measures, regular inspections, and strict adherence to mining protocols are essential to prevent such tragedies.

Response and Investigation:

Authorities have initiated investigations to determine the cause of the collapse and assess any lapses in safety protocols. The findings are expected to lead to stricter enforcement of safety regulations to protect the lives of miners.
