Lok Sabha Election Result 2024: The descendants of the royal families contesting the 2024 Lok Sabha elections on BJP tickets have performed quite well, and most of them are leading by huge margins in their respective seats. Jyotiraditya Scindia, a descendant of the Gwalior royal family, won from the Guna parliamentary constituency in Madhya Pradesh by 5,40,929 votes.
The BJP candidate and Union Civil Aviation Minister was pitted against Congress' Rao Yadavendra Singh. Jyotiraditya had joined the BJP in 2020, breaking his 18-year-old relationship with the Congress. Guna was represented by his father late Madhavrao Scindia and grandmother late Vijayaraje Scindia, meaning it has been the traditional seat of the Scindia family. Another BJP candidate from the royal family and Prince of Dholpur in Rajasthan, Dushyant Singh, won by a huge margin from Jhalawar-Baran.
He defeated his Congress rival Urmila Jain by 3,70,989 votes. He has been elected MP four times earlier. Mahima Kumari Mewar, wife of Maharana Pratap's descendant Vishvraj Singh Mewar, defeated her nearest Congress rival Dr Damodar Gurjar by 3,92,223 votes from Rajsamand Lok Sabha seat in Rajasthan. 31-year-old BJP candidate Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar, who hails from the Mysore royal family in the south and is educated in the US, defeated Congress candidate M Laxman in Mysore by 1,39,262 votes.
In 2015, he was crowned as the head of the erstwhile Mysore royal family and became the 27th king of the Wadiyar dynasty. Malavika Devi, a member of the royal family of Kalahandi district in Odisha and wife of former MP Arka Keshari Dev, defeated her nearest rival Biju Janata Dal (BJD) Lambodar Niyal by 1,33,813 votes in Kalahandi as a BJP candidate.
In the northeastern states, Kriti Singh Debbarma, a member of the former royal family of Tripura, who was the joint candidate of regional party Tipra Motha and BJP, defeated her nearest rival CPI's Rajendra Reang by 4,86,819 votes in the Tripura East seat. There are two parliamentary constituencies in Tripura and both went to the BJP's account.
Kangana defeated Vikramaditya of Rampur family
Among the royal candidates who lost in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections is Congress candidate from Mandi Lok Sabha seat Vikramaditya Singh. Vikramaditya, heir to the Rampur royal family and son of late Virbhadra Singh, six-time Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, lost to his rival and actress-turned-politician Kangana Ranaut of the BJP by 74,755 votes.
Another losing candidate from the royal family was Rajmata Amrita Roy from Bengal's Krishnanagar seat. She trailed by over 56,000 votes to Trinamool Congress' Mahua Moitra. Married into the family of Maharaja Krishnachandra Roy, Roy is known as Rani Maa in the constituency.
