Lahore: Lahore AQI Level Due to continuous smog, it is becoming difficult for the residents of Lahore, the capital of Pakistani Punjab province, to breathe. The Air Quality Index (AQI) in the city crossed 1900. In view of this situation, the provincial government announced the closure of all primary schools in the city.
World's most polluted city, AQI crosses 1900
According to Geo TV, government and private schools up to class five will remain closed from November 4 to 9 due to the smog situation. On October 22, Lahore was considered the most polluted city in the world with AQI 394. Since then, pollution continued to increase and on Saturday the AQI crossed 1100. At one time it had crossed 1900.
122 times more than the WHO limit
The city's 14 million people have been affected by smog for several days now, with Swiss air quality monitor IQAir recording levels of deadly PM2.5 pollutants reaching 613.
This is 122.6 times more than the level considered poor for health by the World Health Organisation.
Now the government has come into action
Senior Punjab minister Maryam Aurangzeb said during a press conference that the government has closed primary schools for a week and advised parents to ensure that children wear masks as a thick blanket of smog engulfed the city.
Aurangzeb said that to reduce pollution caused by vehicles, 50 percent of office employees will work from home.

The government also issued an advisory urging people to stay indoors, keep doors and windows closed, and avoid travelling and going out of the house unless essential.

Minister Aurangzeb blamed neighbouring India for such a bad condition of air pollution. He said that the reason for this air pollution could be the winds coming from India.
He further said that it cannot be resolved without talks with India. The provincial government will initiate talks with its big neighbour through Pakistan's foreign ministry.
