Kumbh Sankranti has great importance in Hinduism. On this day, the Sun transits in Aquarius, whose lord is Saturn. People worship Lord Sun on Kumbh Sankranti. When is Kumbh Sankranti? (Auspicious Timing For Kumbh Sankranti)
According to the Hindu calendar, Lord Surya will transit in Aquarius on the day of Magh Purnima. That is, Kumbh Sankranti will be celebrated on 12 February. On this holy day, the Punya Kaal will be from 12:35 pm to 6:09 pm.
At the same time, Maha Punya Kaal will be from 04:18 pm to 06:09 pm. During this time, Ganga bath, charity or other religious works can be done.
Method of offering water to the Sun (Surya Arghya Ritual)
- The seeker should wake up in the morning and take a bath.
- Offer Arghya as per the auspicious time.
- Offer Arghya to Sun God with milk, water, sesame seeds, jaggery and roli.
- Salute Lord Sun and chant his Vedic mantras.
- Recite the Chalisa of Sun God.
- Then perform the aarti of Sun God with incense, lamp and camphor.
- Offer fruits, sweets, and home-made Prasad to Lord Surya.
- Ask for forgiveness for mistakes made during the puja.
- While offering water, keep the pot below your head.
- Wear red clothes and offer water to Sun God.
- End the fast by offering Arghya to the Sun and distribute Prasad among all the people.
