According to mythology, Goddess Durga incarnated as a young girl to defeat the demon Kalasur. Therefore, Kanya Pujan is organized on Navratri, because Sherawali resides in small girls.

When is Kanya Pujan 2024?

According to the Hindu calendar, this year the Ashtami Tithi of Shukla Paksha of Ashwin month will start on October 10 at 12:31 pm. At the same time, this date will end on October 11 at 12:06 pm. Based on the Panchang, Durga Ashtami and Navami will be celebrated together on October 11. In such a situation, this year Kanya Pujan will be organized on October 11 only.

 

Rules of Kanya Pujan

  • Start the ritual by welcoming the girls.
  • After this, wash his/her feet and make him/her sit on the seat.
  • Then apply Kalawa, the sacred thread, and red kumkum on the forehead.
  • After this, feed puri, black gram, coconut and halwa as prasad.
  • Give gifts to girls like chunri, bangles and new clothes.
  • Then give fruits and dakshina as per your capacity.
  • Along with this, take the blessings of the girls by touching their feet.
  • In the end, give them some Akshat and ask them to sprinkle it in their house and also take it yourself.
  • Avoid tamasic things during this time.
