Mothers observe this fast with the wish of safety and health of their children. It is believed that by observing this fast with devotion, all the obstacles coming in the life of the child can be removed. Not only this, it is also said about this fast that any woman who observes this fast never has to face the separation from her child.

Jitiya fast auspicious time (Jitiya fast 2024 muhurat)

According to the Panchang, the Ashtami date of Ashwin month is starting on 24 September 2024 at 12:38 pm. At the same time, this date is going to end on 25 September at 12:10 pm. In such a situation, according to the Udaya date, Jitiya Vrat will be observed on Wednesday, 25 September.

How is this fast observed?

In Jitiya Vrat, just like Chhath, Nahai-Khai and Kharna are performed and this fast is broken on the third day. On Jitiya Vrat day, women wake up in Brahma Muhurta and take bath and meditate. On the day of Vrat, fruits, sweets, tea, water etc. can be consumed before sunrise. After this, Nirjala Vrat is observed till sunrise the next day. After this, the fast is broken the next day after offering Arghya to Sun God. During this time, it is customary to eat rice, Maruwa roti, Ridge gourd, Ragi and Noni saag.

 

Who is worshipped (Who is Lord Jimutavahana)

On Jitiya Vrat, there is a ritual of worshipping Lord Jimutvahan, who was actually a Gandharva prince. According to a legend, King Jimutvahan saved the life of a mother's son with his courage and wisdom. Since then, he started being worshipped as a god and mothers started observing a fast called Jeevit Putrika to protect their children.
