New Delhi: Jaishankar on LAC Today, the armies of both countries are going to take a big step to improve relations between India and China. To improve diplomatic relations between the two countries, India and China will complete the process of military withdrawal across the Line of Actual Control (LAC) today and by October 29.
Military withdrawal at the border in eastern Ladakh
According to a report by news agency PTI, patrolling will now resume in some areas of the LAC after the withdrawal of troops from both countries and removal of temporary structures in the year 2020. The military withdrawal between the two countries will take place at two confrontation points of the LAC - Demchok and Depsang Plains in eastern Ladakh.
The situation of April 2020 will be restored
An Indian Army source told news agency ANI that the latest agreement will be valid only for Demchok and Depsang, not for other places. This agreement will not apply to other conflict areas. Troops of both sides will return to the position before April 2020 and they will patrol the areas where they patrolled till April 2020.
Jaishankar told the plan ahead
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Sunday said the withdrawal of troops in Depsang and Demchok in Ladakh is the first step and India hopes to return to the patrolling position of 2020. The Foreign Minister, in an apparent reference to China, said the next step is to reduce tensions.
However, this will not happen until India is sure that the same is happening on the other side. How to manage the borders will be discussed after the tension subsides. Earlier this week, India announced that it had reached an agreement with China to patrol the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh.
Major diplomatic success
This is a major breakthrough towards ending the military standoff that has been going on in eastern Ladakh for more than four years. Speaking to reporters in Mumbai, Jaishankar said that a consensus has been reached on patrolling and withdrawal in Depsang and Demchok. It is clear that it will take time to implement it. This is an issue of withdrawal and patrolling, which means that our armies had come very close to each other and now they have gone back to their bases. We hope that the situation of 2020 will be restored.
