The India Meteorological Department has issued a heat wave alert for several districts in Maharashtra this week, and Akola in Vidarbha has become one of the hottest cities in the world, reaching nearly 44 degrees Celsius.

Meanwhile, Amravati, Wardha, and Nagpur also made it to the top 10. Temperatures in many parts of the country have reached 40–44 degrees Celsius. The India Meteorological Department has warned that the heatwave will intensify in the coming days.

Temperatures are expected to reach 50 degrees Celsius.

According to the International Monetary Fund (IMD), 2026 will be warmer than normal, with heatwaves expected to increase between March and May, and temperatures could rise by 4–8 degrees Celsius. At peak temperatures, temperatures are expected to reach 50 degrees Celsius in some areas.

Similarly, the temperature was recorded at 36°C in Son La, Vietnam, 36°C in Chandrapur, Maharashtra, India, 36°C in Raipur, Chhattisgarh, 36°C in Gadchandur, Maharashtra, 36°C in Mahasamund, Chhattisgarh, 36°C in Sasaram, Bihar, 36°C in Bhilai, Chhattisgarh, 36°C in Kothapet, Telangana, 36°C in Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh, 36°C in Durg, Chhattisgarh and 36°C in Mughalsarai, Uttar Pradesh.

Apart from this, temperature of 35°C was recorded in Aranyaprathet of East Thailand, 35°C in Lachhanpur of Chhattisgarh, 35°C in Mirzapur of UP, 35°C in Jagityal of Telangana, 35°C in Wat Phra Phutthabat of Thailand, 35°C in Varanasi of UP, 35°C in Adilabad of Telangana, 35°C in Masanganj of Chhattisgarh, 35°C in Morshi of Maharashtra, 35°C in Quy Nhon of Vietnam, 35°C in Karimnagar of Telangana and 35°C in Bhainsa of Telangana.
