New Delhi. America's displeasure over Prime Minister Narendra Modi's two-day visit to Russia earlier this week has become clear. On one hand, there is news of a senior official of the Joe Biden administration calling the Indian Foreign Ministry to express his displeasure, while on the other hand, US Ambassador to New Delhi Eric Garcetti indirectly said very harsh things about Modi's visit to Russia in a public event here.
Now is not the time to just talk about peace restoration - Garcetti
Garcetti even said, 'I respect India's strategic autonomy, but there is no strategic autonomy in times of war.' Similarly, pointing to Prime Minister Modi's talk of establishing peace, Garcetti said that now is not the time to just talk about restoring peace, but those who are disturbing the peace must also be punished. He also questioned the Indian strategy of buying weapons from Russia and clearly said that India would have to choose between America and Russia as a defense partner. He also reminded us that today America is making the best defense equipment and it is also ready to share these weapons with India.
PM Modi met Putin four times
Prime Minister Modi was on a visit to Russia on July 8-9. During this period, he met Russian President Vladimir Putin four times. On the very first day of Modi's visit, Russia attacked a children's hospital in the Ukrainian capital, Kiev. Modi raised this issue twice in front of Putin and said that his heart was broken on the death of children. He also gave a message to Putin that peace cannot be restored from the battlefield. The US President's House, the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of External Affairs have issued separate statements a day before PM Modi's visit. But in his speech at a defense think tank event in New Delhi on Thursday, Garcetti indirectly mentioned Modi's visit to Russia several times. His displeasure was clearly visible in this.
Today, no war is far away
Garcetti compared Russia's attack on Ukraine to China's attack on India's east and said that today no war is far away. The world is watching those countries that violate the sovereignty of other countries. We do not need to remind India how important borders are. We should live together on these principles. Peace can be established in the world only based on these principles. The two largest democratic countries of the world can increase stability in this region. Similarly, comparing the ten agreements made with Russia during Prime Minister Modi's visit, it was also pointed out that there was agreement on 173 issues in the joint declaration during Modi's visit to America last year. Garcetti said that when joint declarations are issued after the meeting of leaders, we can guess by looking at them which one is fake.
It is not right to bet on Russia as a long-term and reliable partner: Sullivan
Concerned over India's ties with Russia, US National Security Advisor (NSA) Jack Sullivan on Thursday warned New Delhi that it is not right to bet on Russia as a long-term and reliable partner. Responding to a question on MSNBC regarding Prime Minister Modi's visit to Russia, Sullivan said, "Russia is getting closer to China. It is becoming China's junior partner. And thus it will side with China over India any day." However, Sullivan acknowledged that countries like India have historical ties with Russia and this cannot change overnight.
