Kolkata. The Election Commission will hold an important meeting in Kolkata on Saturday regarding the deployment of central forces in Bengal given the first phase of voting for the Lok Sabha elections to be held on April 19.
Many officers will attend the meeting
According to information received from Commission sources, Special Police Observer IPS (retired) Anil Kumar Sharma, appointed for Bengal, Special General Observer Alok Sinha, Chief Electoral Officer of Bengal Dr. Ariz Aftab, Nodal Officer of Central Forces, IG VK of CRPF were present in the meeting. Sharma and ADG (Legal) of state police Anand Kumar.
350 companies will be needed
It is known that before the announcement of elections, 150 companies of central forces had reached the state. Later 27 more companies were sent. Central forces personnel have started route marches in various districts. Sources said that for the deployment of central forces at each booth, at least 350 companies will be required in the first phase. In this regard, some more companies may reach here in the second week of this month.
The commission is taking precautions
Meanwhile, the Commission has sought from the District Election Officers of Bengal a list of those booths where no national party had an agent during the last Panchayat elections. Given the huge violence and disturbances in the Panchayat elections, the Commission does not want to take any negligence in the Lok Sabha elections.
