There is no official information yet on how many people are injured and how many have died in the stampede that took place on Wednesday night during the Maha Kumbh event in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. However, sources claim that 17 people have died.
Meanwhile, Maha Kumbh DIG Vaibhav Krishna has said that 'We do not have the official number of people killed in the stampede because we are engaged in controlling the crowd here. The injured are being treated.'
Apart from this, Krishna said that we expect more than 10 crore people to come today. All our officers and employees have been deployed to control the crowd since yesterday evening. People are bathing peacefully at all the ghats here. There was pressure in the morning and the crowd was very high. Many akhadas asked us to control the crowd and said that they would come out for bathing later. Now that the crowd is under control, our preparations for the akhadas and saints are complete. The akhada route and akhada ghats are ready. The entire area has been sanitized and we have told this to the akhadas and they will soon start coming here for bathing.
