The Allahabad High Court could not hear the case related to the dispute over Atala Masjid in Jaunpur, Uttar Pradesh today. The bench in which the case was to be heard today did not sit today. The case was transferred to another bench, but the hearing could not take place there either.

The hearing of the case will now take place after a week. The next hearing of the case may take place on December 16. The case was to be heard on the single bench of Justice Rohit Ranjan Agarwal. Due to his bench not sitting today, the case was transferred to the court of Justice Salil Kumar Rai.

In the hearing to be held on December 16, Swaraj Vahini organization, which claims a temple in place of a mosque, will have to file its reply. The Hindu side's reply is ready. The petition has been filed by the Waqf Committee of Atala Mosque.

The petition challenges the order given by the District Judge of Jaunpur on the revision petition. The District Judge had issued an order on August 12 this year approving the maintainability of the case filed in the District Court of Jaunpur.

Earlier, on May 29, the civil judge of Jaunpur district court had ordered to register the case and start the hearing. Both these orders have been challenged in the petition filed by the Muslim side.

State president of Swaraj Vahini Association Santosh Kumar Mishra had filed a case in Jaunpur District Court and claimed that Atala Masjid of Jaunpur was built by demolishing a temple. The place where the mosque is located, earlier there was a temple of Atala Devi. This temple was built by King Vijay Chandra in the 13th century.

Firoz Shah Tughlaq converted the temple into a mosque after capturing Jaunpur. The petition has demanded permission to worship in Atala Masjid by calling it the temple of Atala Devi.
