News Topical, Digital Desk : There was a lot of uproar in the monsoon session of Himachal Pradesh Vidhan Sabha on Thursday over the pending dearness allowance (DA) of the employees. The atmosphere got so heated during the questions and answers that the opposition walked out of the House. The opposition says that the Chief Minister is misleading the House, while the government argues that the employees will get their rights as soon as the economic situation improves.
During the Question Hour, BJP MLA Satpal Satti raised a question on the pending DA of the employees. The opposition wanted a more detailed answer on this, but the Speaker did not allow it. Angered by this, the opposition came into the well and raised strong slogans. After some time, the BJP MLAs walked out of the House.
The government is giving evasive answers – Opposition
Leader of Opposition Jairam Thakur said that the government is repeatedly giving evasive answers. He said that 11 percent DA is pending. While presenting the budget, the Chief Minister had announced to release the installment in May, but the month of August is about to end and the employees have not got any relief till now.
Jairam Thakur said that not fulfilling the announcement made in the House amounts to breach of privilege. He alleged that the Speaker of the Assembly also did not give the opposition an opportunity to ask more questions on this issue. He also reminded that the BJP government had also paid the liabilities of the Congress government during its tenure.
Installment stuck due to OPS
Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu admitted that 11 percent DA is pending. He said that provision has been made in the budget, but due to the weak financial condition of the state, it is not possible to release the installment at present. The implementation of OPS (Old Pension Scheme) has put an additional burden on the government, due to which there is a problem in giving DA.
The CM also said that the pending DA from the time of the BJP government has been given by the current government. He advised the opposition that the financial condition of the state is not hidden from anyone and as soon as the situation improves, the pending liabilities of the employees will be paid.
