Every Diwali, the Indian stock market celebrates the occasion with a special one-hour evening trading session known as Muhurat trading. Celebrated as an auspicious time to invest, this tradition has become a symbol of prosperity. Investors often look at it as a way to boost their portfolios with good returns.

When is Muhurat Trading-  This year, both BSE and NSE will hold Muhurat trading sessions on Friday, November 1 from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm.

While the markets will remain closed during the day. This evening session allows investors to make token investments following a long-standing tradition of trading during Diwali. Historically, if we check the data, it is clear that Muhurat trading sessions have often been bullish, even though trading volumes are usually low. In the last 16 years, Sensex and Nifty closed with a green mark i.e. gain in 13 of the Muhurat trading sessions. Last year in the 2023 Muhurat session, Diwali was celebrated on November 12 and on that day Sensex and Nifty closed with a gain of about half a percent. Which was the second best Muhurat trading profit in five years. In the 2023 session, the BSE Sensex closed 355 points higher at 65,259, up 0.55 per cent, and the Nifty 50 closed 100 points higher at 19,525, up 0.52 per cent. Mid and smallcap stocks outperformed, with the BSE Midcap index gaining 0.67 per cent and the BSE Smallcap index rising 1.14 per cent. The market cap of BSE-listed companies rose to ₹322.5 lakh, registering a growth of nearly ₹2.2 lakh crore. The top performers in the 2023 Muhurat trading session included 28 of the 30 Sensex stocks and 43 of the 50 Nifty stocks. Coal India, UPL, Infosys and Eicher Motors were among the top gainers. History of Muhurat Trading Over the years, Muhurat trading days have seen a consistent rally. There was a growth of about one percent in the year 2022. There was a growth of 0.5 percent in the year 2021 There was a growth of 0.47 percent in the year 2020 There was a growth of 0.37 percent in the year 2019 There was a growth of 0.7 percent in the year 2018 There was a decline of (-0.6 percent) in the year 2017 There was a decline of (-0.04 percent) in the year 2016 There was a slight decline of (-0.3 percent) in the year 2012. That is why it is suggested that investors, especially beginners, invest in tokens instead of large trades. Whatever shares you buy, buy them with good fundamentals and for the long term.
