
Dehradun News: Two youths died and more than 15 people were injured in a tragic bus accident in Vikasnagar area of Dehradun on Sunday. The accident happened when a passenger bus lost control at high speed and fell into a ditch on the side of the road. School and college students were also travelling in the bus, who were seriously injured. After the accident, the bus driver fled from the spot and is being searched for. The deceased include a 24-year-old youth and a 17-year-old student. Both died on the spot. The bodies of the deceased have been sent for post-mortem, while the injured have been admitted to a nearby hospital, where the condition of some remains critical.
The injured include people of different age groups. Some passengers are daily wage earners while some are school students who were returning after giving exams. Many people have suffered serious head, hand and leg injuries. Some have suffered minor injuries and have been sent home after first aid. A teenager in the bus, who studies in class 9, has suffered serious injuries. A 60-year-old woman and her husband have also been admitted to the hospital. Some children are between 14 and 16 years of age and are undergoing treatment. A three-year-old child has also suffered minor injuries.
The bus driver fled from the spot after the accident.
With the help of local people and passersby, the injured were immediately taken out of the bus and rushed to the hospital. Police reached the spot and conducted a rescue operation. Initial investigation has revealed that the bus driver was driving at a high speed and lost control at the turn. The driver fled after the accident, police teams have been deployed to arrest him.
Police say that all aspects of the accident are being investigated. The fitness of the bus, permit and driver's records are also being investigated. At present, the process of treatment of the injured and last rites of the dead is going on. This accident is a warning for the administration and transport department that how ignoring traffic rules and careless driving can prove fatal.
