Armed forces need to be prepared for the future

Earlier, while addressing the semi-annual conference of top military commanders on Thursday, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh said that doctrinal changes should be made whenever necessary to prepare the armed forces for the future. He said that the armed forces should prepare a 'dynamic plan' to face both long-term and short-term challenges keeping in mind the current dynamic geo-strategic changes and global security scenarios.

Singh said, "The recommendations and suggestions made by the senior leadership at forums like the Army Commanders' Conference should be deliberated upon and taken to their logical conclusion with mid-term review and amendments, if required. The nation is proud of its army and the government is committed to helping the army move forward on the path of reforms and capability modernisation." He said that unconventional and asymmetric warfare, including 'hybrid' warfare, will be "part of future conventional warfare". Singh emphasised on the current geo-strategic uncertainties and complex world situation, which impacts everyone globally. He said that the present world is an "interconnected world" and such events, whether in the neighbourhood or in distant countries, will affect everyone.
