Thiruvananthapuram: The CBI has filed a chargesheet in a local court against five persons for allegedly implicating space scientist Nambi Narayanan in the 1994 ISRO espionage case. It is not yet known who all have been chargesheeted.

A citizen of Maldives was arrested 

On April 15, 2021, the Supreme Court had ordered that the report of the high-level committee constituted on the role of guilty police officers in the espionage case related to Narayanan be given to the CBI. It is noteworthy that in 1994, Maldivian citizen Rashida was arrested in Thiruvananthapuram for obtaining graphics of ISRO rocket engine.

What argument did the accused give? 

Rashida was accused of procuring rocket engine graphics to sell to Pakistan. Narayanan was also arrested along with then ISRO Deputy Director D Sasikumaran and Rashida's friend Fauzia Hasan. However, the allegations were found to be false in a CBI investigation.
