UPPCL News: The electricity department in Uttar Pradesh is once again preparing to give a strong shock to the customers. Under this, getting an electricity connection in the state may soon become expensive. The electricity department has given a proposal to the UP Electricity Regulatory Commission regarding increasing the rates of line charge. If this proposal gets approved, then the electricity connection from home to shop, in villages and cities will become twice as expensive.
This proposal has been prepared under the law of the Government of India to fix the connection charge for up to 150 kilowatts for the electrified area. Under this law, the Regulatory Commission had asked the power companies for a new cost data book. In the proposal given by the Electricity Department to the Regulatory Commission, it has been proposed to increase the rates of domestic electricity connection by up to 100 percent.
The new proposal can be a big shock.
In the proposal sent to the Electricity Regulatory Commission, the cost of the connection will increase after the line charge is implemented. The current cost of 1 kilowatt domestic (rural) electricity connection is Rs 1217 which has been proposed to be increased to Rs 2957. For 2 kilowatt domestic (rural) electricity connection, it is proposed to increase the current rate of Rs 1365 to Rs 3117.
Apart from this, the current cost of 1 KW domestic (urban) electricity connection is Rs 1858, which has been proposed to be increased to Rs 3158. For 2 KW domestic (urban) electricity connection, till now Rs 2217 has to be paid, which has been proposed to be increased to Rs 3517 and for 5 KW domestic (urban) electricity connection, it has been proposed to increase it from Rs 9767 to Rs 17365.
If we talk about the current cost data book, then in electrified areas, connection is given after depositing processing fee, security deposit, line charge, meter cost for connection within 40 meters radius from the pole. But now the Power Corporation has proposed to increase the line charge to a radius of up to 100 meters instead of keeping the radius of 40 meters. In this, the line charge proposed for a 2 kW connection within a radius of 100 meters is Rs 1500.
President of Uttar Pradesh State Electricity Consumer Council, Avadhesh Verma, says that if the commission accepts the corporation's proposal, then soon getting a new connection will become 100 percent more expensive.
