New Delhi. Kanchanjungha Express Train Accident: A horrific train accident has taken place in New Jalpaiguri, West Bengal. This accident happened when a freight train hit the Kanchanjungha Express going to Sealdah on Monday. At least eight people died and 25 others were injured in this accident.

According to reports, three rear coaches of the Kanchenjunga Express derailed and fell on one side after it collided with a freight train between Neechbari and Rangapani stations of the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) region of the Indian Railways. Meanwhile, heavy rains in Siliguri since morning are hampering rescue operations to evacuate stranded passengers.

The incident took place at around 8:45 am today in Rangapani area of ​​Katihar railway division ahead of New Jalpaiguri junction. The Kanchenjunga train had two parcel vans and a guard coach at the rear.

According to Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) Chief Public Relations Officer Sabyasachi Dey, the Kanchenjunga Express, running between Silchar in Assam and Sealdah in Kolkata, was on its way to Sealdah when a goods train hit it from behind near Rangapani station near New Jalpaiguri in North Bengal.

 

Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) of Katihar division of North Frontier Railway said that unconfirmed reports suggest that some people may have been injured in the accident. He said that two rear coaches derailed after being hit from behind by the goods train engine near Rangapani station, about seven kilometers from New Jalpaiguri station in North Bengal.

NF Railway CPRO Sabyasachi Dey said, "Around 25 people have been injured and have been admitted to a nearby hospital. They have not suffered any serious injuries. Rescue operations are going on on a war footing. We are trying to complete the rescue operation as soon as possible. Senior officials have already reached the spot. According to preliminary information, Kanchenjunga was hit from behind by a goods train...we have information about the death of 8 people...."
