Bareilly. Muslim youths attacked a Hindu family for protesting against the wrong route during the Muharram procession. On Friday night, the Hindu family members were counted in the light of torches. After this, more than 100 attackers entered the house. They pelted stones, vandalized and beat up people.
Five people injured in the attack were admitted to the district hospital, one of them is said to be in critical condition. Police reached the village late at night and detained 10 youths from the Muslim side and questioned them. Raids are being conducted to search for other attackers.
The accused were hitting with torch light
Beniram Gangwar of Gausganj said that at 11 pm, Yusuf and Bakhtawar shone torch light several times in his house. At that time, he could not understand why the two accused were doing this. When they continued to show daring behaviour for some time, he protested.
Breaking windows and doors by throwing stones
Meanwhile, the mob including Yusuf and Bakhtawar attacked the house. They broke the doors, threw stones and broke the windows etc. They attacked Beniram, Raviram, his daughter Divya, Tejaram and Sompal with sticks and rods. Meanwhile, the police reached the spot on the information of a villager, but the attackers could not be controlled.
Meanwhile, SP Manus Pareek also reached there. Police was called from the police stations, then there was a stampede among the accused. Police cordoned off the area and took 10 people into custody.
Attacked for opposing tradition
Beniram said that on Muharram, the organizers were taking the procession of Tazias through a new route. He, along with some other villagers, had opposed the new tradition. The attack was carried out due to this enmity.
SP said that legal action is being taken against the miscreants. Such people will not be spared under any circumstances. Strictest action will be taken against them.
