Kanpur News: Muslim religious leaders in Kanpur have opened a front against the Kanpur Mayor. Muslim religious leaders fear that harmony will be disturbed due to the efforts of Kanpur's BJP Mayor Pramila Pandey, who has rediscovered temples that have lost their existence in Muslim-dominated areas and started worshiping in them.
The Muslim community has written a letter to the Police Commissioner, citing the "Places of Worship Act 1991" and demanding to stop this move of the Mayor. Kanpur Mayor Pramila Pandey has also written a letter to the District Magistrate and Police Commissioner demanding action to free the temples from occupation.
After Sambhal, a battle is now being waged in Kanpur over the continuous search for temples. The Kanpur mayor had claimed that he had identified about 125 temples in the Muslim-dominated areas of the city. That too about two and a half years ago, which have lost their existence in Muslim areas or do not exist due to some reason.
Mayor Pramila Pandey brought back to existence temples located in different areas which were under someone's control or were turning into ruins. In this campaign, teams of police administration and municipal corporation took out many temples from Muslim areas and got them cleaned and brought them back to their original form.
Letter written to Kanpur Police Commissioner
Now the front has started against this move of the mayor. A letter sent to the Kanpur Police Commissioner seems to be challenging this campaign of the mayor. In fact, a letter was sent to the Kanpur Police Commissioner on behalf of the Imam, Shahar Qazi, and Naib Qazi of the Ulama Ahle Sunnat Mushavati Board, referring to the "Places of Worship Act 1991", about the step taken by the Mayor of Kanpur to search for temples. It was said in the letter that, despite the refusal of the Supreme Court, the Kanpur Mayor is searching for temples in areas with zero population, which is wrong and can spoil social harmony.
Meanwhile, Kanpur Mayor Pramila Pandey also sent a letter to the District Magistrate and Kanpur Police Commissioner together, mentioning the help provided in freeing the temples from occupation and the presence of police in the campaign. The mayor wrote in the letter that "I just want to save the original form of the temples, I do not want to hurt anyone's religious beliefs."
