Delhi Ayushman Bharat Yojana: The BJP-led Delhi government on Saturday signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Center to implement the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (Ayushman Yojana) in the national capital. With this, Delhi became the 35th state or union territory to implement this health insurance scheme.
West Bengal is now the only state that has not implemented the scheme. The Ayushman Bharat scheme provides free and 'cashless' treatment for 1,961 medical procedures across 27 specialties, covering medicines, clinical services, hospitalisation, ICU care, surgeries and other costs.
Health cover up to Rs 10 lakh to eligible families
Under this scheme, eligible families in Delhi will get an annual health cover of up to Rs 10 lakh, out of which Rs 5 lakh will be provided by the Center and the remaining Rs 5 lakh by the Delhi government. The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed between the Delhi government and the National Health Authority in the presence of Union Health Minister JP Nadda and other top leaders including Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta.
Delhi government will start a campaign regarding Ayushman Yojana
The National Health Authority is the apex body responsible for the implementation of the Ayushman Bharat Health Insurance Scheme. After the signing of the agreement, a special campaign will be launched to enroll beneficiaries under the scheme.
After signing the MoU, it was shared amongst themselves. On 10th April, another MoU will be signed between the Centre and Delhi Government. Under this, the Centre will give Rs 2400 crore to the Delhi Government for health infrastructure.
What did Union Health Minister JP Nadda say?
Union Health Minister JP Nadda said, "Ayushman Bharat is not an insurance scheme, it is an assurance scheme. Kejriwal's ego had deprived the people of Delhi of this scheme. He used to say that Modiji, you will have to take another birth. In this election, people defeated him. Today is a good day. I do not want to name bad people."
