The Indian Army is going to get 307 Advanced Towed Artillery Gun Systems (ATAGS) soon. The Cabinet Committee on Security has approved their acquisition. They will be acquired for about Rs 7000 crore. This initiative of the government is being considered a big step towards self-reliance in artillery gun manufacturing. The deployment of these guns on the China and Pakistan border will give the armed forces a significant strategic advantage.

Cannons are equipped with state-of-the-art technology

ATAGS is being manufactured and designed indigenously. The 155 mm x 52 caliber ATAGS is also known as a howitzer gun. These guns have also been displayed in front of the Red Fort on Independence Day. ATAGS is the first indigenously developed 155 mm artillery gun. This gun is equipped with state-of-the-art technology and excellent firepower. This will not only increase the strength of the army but will also be a demonstration of the power of indigenous weapons.

TAGS project was started in 2013

The category of guns capable of hitting long distances is called howitzer. ATAGS can hit up to 40 km. Due to the large caliber, this gun is capable of hitting far. The ATAGS project was started in 2013. Its objective was to convert the entire army's guns into modern artillery guns. ATAGS has been developed by the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) and will be manufactured in collaboration with private companies.

Dependence on foreign countries will decrease

More than 65 percent of the parts used in the artillery gun have been manufactured domestically. These include barrel, breech mechanism, firing, recoil system and ammunition handling mechanism. This project will not only strengthen India's defense industry but will also reduce dependence on foreign countries. ATAGS will replace the old 105 mm and 130 mm guns in the Indian Army. This will modernize the army's artillery.

employment opportunities will also be created

Due to indigenous manufacturing, there will be no problem in the supply of ATAGS parts. Their maintenance will also be easy. Important subsystems like navigation system, muzzle velocity radar and sensors have been designed and developed in the country itself. Due to this, the country will not have to depend on foreign technology and imports. The government believes that due to the ATAGS project, employment opportunities equivalent to about 20 lakh man days will be created in various industries. India's position in the global defense market will also be stronger than before.
